Head to Toe Assessment (In 5 minutes or less!)
Time-frame: All day workshop.
Program summary: Now more than ever, nurses need to be able to
prioritize a sequence for physical assessment and rapidly determine
hemodynamic instability.
Attend this program and learn how to perform a thorough, focused
physical assessment from head to toe in 5 minutes or less!
Objectives: Upon completion of this presentation, each participant
will be able to:
Perform a physical assessment utilizing history, inspection,
palpation, and auscultation
Differentiate between normal and adventitious lung sounds
Interpret "1,2,3's" of ABG’s
Relate heart sounds to the cardiac cycle and recognize the
significance of abnormal heart sounds
Relate electrolyte imbalances and patterns of ischemia, injury, &
infarction to findings on a 12 Lead EKG
Describe normal and abnormal bowel sounds and discuss the relevance of
each
Determine a priority sequence for physical assessment and discern
changes that may indicate deteriorating status
New Codes for a Code
Time-frame: All day workshop
Program summary: You will be amazed at how simple it is to handle any
cardiac arrest with great knowledge, confidence, and finesse. Complex
ACLS algorithms will be simplified and easy mnemonics will help you to
remember all of them. Attend this session, and learn what’s new in
"code blue"!
Discern among the four classifications of antidysrhythmic agents
Differentiate between the primary and secondary surveys
Identify lethal arrhythmias and distinguish among the sites of various
disturbances to determine appropriate intervention
Discuss various types of airway adjuncts, and utilize the most
appropriate adjunct for specific types of patients
Relate easy ACLS mnemonics to patients with hemodynamic instability
and describe the relevance of treatment modalities in accordance with
the AHA algorithms
Survival Skills for the Charge Nurse
Time-frame: All day workshop
Program Summary: When you are in charge, do you spend a lot of your
time doing other staff members jobs, because it's just easier to do it
yourself? Do you sometimes encounter difficult personalities? Never
again shy away from being in this role. Charge forward and learn the
legal ramifications and strategies to assist you in the decisions you
have to make on a daily basis.
Objectives: Upon completion of this seminar, each participant will be
able to: Define leadership and list the traits of a competent leader
Review the role expectations of a charge nurse
List the ten steps necessary for proper delegation and discuss the
three common pitfalls that nurses should avoid
Deal effectively with difficult personalities
Manage conflict resulting in a win win solution
Minding Your P's & Q's: 12 Lead EKG Interpretation
Time-frame: All day workshop
Program Summary:Now more than ever, nurses need an armamentarium of
knowledge to handle complex medicare care. Often, when a patient
deteriorates one of the first test results available to a nurse is a
12 lead EKG. Attend this workshop, and walk away with confidence that
the next time you encounter a 12 lead EKG, you will be able to rapidly
analyze it accuracy and finesse!
Objectives: Upon completion of this presentation, each participant
will be able to: Describe the configurations of the electrocardiogram
for each of the twelve leads and relate the findings to pathological
events
Utilize a systematic approach for interpreting axis deviation, if
present
Determine chamber enlargement for atrial abnormalities and ventricular
hypertrophies
Evaluate right and left bundle branch blocks and differentiate between
complete and incomplete intraventricular conduction abnormalities
Recognize the distinction among acute coronary syndromes and relate
patterns of myocardial infarction to the lateral, inferior, or
anterior walls of the heart
Distinguish between pericarditis and MIs
Practice 12 lead interpretation using the systematic 5 step approach
The Basics of Basic EKG Interpretation
Time-frame: All day workshop
Program Summary:More nurses are now required to have basic EKG
interpretation skills. This is occurring not only in the in-patient
and out-patient areas, but in the office setting as well. Don't miss a
beat! Attend this session and walk away with the ability to rapidly
and accurately interpret basic EKG rhythms.
Objectives: Upon completion of this presentation, each participant
will be able
Review the cardiac cycle, and conduction system, and discuss the implications of heart function related to hemodynamic instability
Discuss aspects of electrocardiographic components and explain the significance of each component
Utilize a systematic approach for interpreting any EKG rhythm disturbance
Detect and identify cardiac dysrhythmias, and discuss treat options, if indicated
